The project led by School of Planning and Architecture, Mysuru (University of Mysore) was selected through an application process under the aegis of DULT’s second annual research program ASPIRE. This project focuses on promoting active mobility—walking and cycling—with students as one of the important target groups. Three cities within Karnataka- Mandya, Hassan and Hosapete have been selected for this. Our work involves developing a comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of how students commute, the routes they take, and the challenges they face in terms of safety, accessibility, and infrastructure.
Through a mix of primary surveys, spatial analysis, and stakeholder consultations, we aim to identify key factors influencing travel choices and the barriers to adopting active modes. The research will culminate in data-driven frameworks and strategies to help local governments and educational institutions enhance infrastructure, safety, and partnerships that encourage walking and cycling as sustainable travel options.
