Urban and regional planning in India is a rather nascent discipline – both in academia and industry. Despite its infancy, focus on this domain is increasingly gaining attention both in the private and public sectors. 

Considering the massive investments underway, governments and funding agencies are emphasizing on the need for skill development in the urban planning sector.

There has not been a better time than now to be part of India's growth story.

In order to cope with the pace of India's urbanization, only having cities develop may not be the most prudent solution. Indian cities are growing into what is known as city-regions, having significantly wider geographical and administrative extents. What used to be problems faced by cities only a few decades ago, is now commonly spilling over to their adjoining regions. It is of paramount importance to set urban areas in India on the right track at the right time. As a consultancy, we seek to work not only in areas which are evidently identified as urban, but also rural, regional and peri-urban. Hence the name- ‘Beyond Urban’.

Beyond Urban is an urban planning consultancy. We envisage that through this consultancy, we will pursue a pragmatic and evidence-based approach towards solving problems that are currently bothering India’s cities. In our approach, we are mindful of the wider global attention to sustainable development.  Therefore, all work that happens at Beyond Urban shall be centered on the three dimensions of sustainability – economy, environment, and the society.
